Millennials love social media. And they love its forms of expressions: selfies, networking, and posting to social media sites, especially the top three: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Millennials also comprise the largest single segment of the U.S. workforce. There are 53.5 million millennials (defined as adults 18 to 34 years-old as of 2015) out there working. This means that one in three American workers is a millennial. And their numbers are still growing. The previous generation, Generation X (ages 35 to 50 in 2015), contributes 53 million people to the American workforce. Between them, millennials and Gen Xers comprise two-thirds of the workforce. They’re in positions of power in business and society, and have massive purchasing power. And they’re the demographic users of social media walls should aim at. Social media walls are powerful engagement tools that combine social media with digital media to produce buzz for businesses while creating a fabulous experience for anyone that decides to share his experiences on social media. So to day we deliver some tips on how to drive engagement, visibility and sales using a Social Wall

It’s built on engagement and empowerment. These are terms millennials are familiar with, and which many strive to live by.

What exactly is a social media wall?

A social media wall consists of one or more digital signage displays or digital TV monitors located in a live event venue that broadcast social media posts and photos uploaded by guests or attendees. These posts are tagged with your event’s #hashtag or Twitter @handle and posted on social networks like Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

Live events usually use social media walls to engage their guests. Knowing social media walls are around encourages attendees to post photos of themselves at the event to their social media accounts for their friends and followers to see.

In this role, social media walls are powerful tools for driving traffic and generating buzz and engagement. By encouraging attendees to share posts, social media walls have become a great way to engage customers and guests with your brand.

Social media walls are also entertaining and fun. Who doesn’t want his selfie or photos displayed on massive TV screens seen by lots and lots of people? That’s the equivalent of Hollywood’s 15 minutes of fame. With social media walls, anyone can instantly become a social media star.

That’s big-time engagement.

Here are a few other tips on how to drive engagement, visibility and sales using a social wall:

  • Don’t settle for one wall. Go for two or more for more engagement.
  • Use a call-to-action to encourage attendees to post on your social media wall.
  • Create a really great #hashtag for your event. Make this branded hashtag catchy; easy to type and easy to remember. Hashtags give anyone online access to the event.
  • Make sure to remind attendees to use your branded hashtag when posting.
  • Appoint someone to update your official social media feed broadcast on your social media wall.
  • Display posters with the event hashtag to remind attendees to post.
